My DOST Pag Asa Seminar Workshop Experience

 

My Team during DOST Media Workshop

It was a very fun, amazing learning experience.   I must say that as a blogger, this is the best event I have attended so far.. My excitement got even more intense as I arrived at the venue… Met participants from different agencies/media people like CNN, TV25, ABS-CBN, GMA, Redcross, Inquirer,DZMM Radio, DOST team, and co -bloggers. We formed a very good team excited to learn … Lectures really gave wider point of view of what PAG ASA DOST is all about: how they started, system flow in weather broadcasting, their departments. Lectures were all informative as the facilitators went into details, explained things in a simplified form .  We learned the weather systems affecting the country , The PRD functions and its services,

The PAGASA Forecasting and Warning System, The Associated Hazards of La Nina/ Storm Surge, The Climatological and Agroment Services/Philippine Climate, The Tropical Cyclone Trends.  They also gave update about El Nino and La Nina. We learned details about every subject and they also discussed the Astronomical Services.  We also had telescoping experience .. wherein we got to see the moon… Jupiter, Mars and Saturn!

I learned that forecasters use advance tools that provide  reliable weather forecast….
Moreover, they taught us the role of  media in disaster risk reduction and management – not just before and during calamities but also after.  Media definitely plays an important role in checking the condition of the people and coordinate their needs to concerned departments.

Seminar quality was excellent. It had appropriate visual aids for every presentation that really caught my attention,  It was very informative and easy to understand.  All speakers were effective in delivering their lectures.  The approach was very effective.  The seminar gave me a wider idea on PAGASA products and services, and made me realize the importance of understanding weather related hazards.  It helped improve my knowledge in weather forecasts Workshop activities connected all the participants to work together as one.  Everyone was very nice, friendly and so generous in sharing their ideas. The organizers also provided very comfortable accommodation to all the participants and satisfied our needs during the seminar. 

I commend the DOST PAGASA TEAM for having this kind of seminar that educates and helps people understand what they do, as well as the important role media plays in providing awareness to everyone and disseminating warnings to prevent casualties.  After attending this event, I realized the very critical and important role weather forecasters and media people play in the country.  Their job is definitely a difficult one.  People should fully cooperate and follow any warnings they send because they are definitely meant to protect us. 

This seminar definitely exceeded my expectation.  I would surely want to attend more events like this one.
